"Where flowers bloom so does hope"

After reading “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott, I found that I could relate to what she had to say about a first draft. One thing that I could relate to was the pulling of teeth. The first draft was just to write your idea’s down on the paper. It does not matter if the text was correct or anything but it was definitely difficult in starting this process. I can relate to this idea because I have a hard time starting off. Trying to begin this process is difficult for me because I feel like whatever I wrote is wrong and invalid regarding the purpose of the essay. However, one thing I did not agree with totally was her ‘Child Draft’. The child draft just seems to be to scattered and all over the place. I am a writer who needs some form of a structure when writing my essay. So then with this, I would not agree that the first draft should be a ‘child’s draft’ it should have more relevance regarding the topic.

Revision Plan: My goal in fixing my first draft is to make sure my grammar is correct and has the proper punctuation. Next, would fix the order of my body paragraphs so that, my essay flows more thoroughly. Also, with the peer edits that I got from my group, I need to add more analysis points to help the reader understand my quotations and connect them back to my thesis. My biggest trouble that I have is throwing my quotes in without introducing it. So then, with the peer editing and the help of the little seagull book, I will go back and fix the area’s that need to be corrected and produce a better second rough draft.

I like how you describe how you related to the short essay and how you also disagreed with some of the essays points. Everyone’s first draft is what they put into it and the writing process is different for everyone. I like how you talked about starting the essay because I also struggle with that. I like your revision plan and how you plan on using your peers comments to help you and how you want to fix your body paragraphs because I also feel like my body paragraphs could use some editing.

I also agree with the child draft analogy. The draft is purely just to get something on paper, a skeleton of the essay. when ever writing a first draft its important to have low expectations for it, that will make it easier to get started. If you know a lot in the draft is going to change then you feel its okay to make mistakes and just get something on paper.
Your revision plan looks good, remember you can always go the Elisha or the SASC will also look over your paper. Good look on the revisions.

I agree with what Christina said, starting off is always so difficult. I also see her point about the “Child Draft”. When I was writing my essay, I was all over the place moving things, rewording things or even just completely taking things out. But I understand how some people need some sort of set structure to get them going. I am also not a very organized person so I believe thats why I related to it more than she did. Overall, I think we both had somewhat the same experience when writing this first draft.
