"Where flowers bloom so does hope"

Blog #3: TED Talk

The TED talk that I chose was “How Painting Can Transform Communities” by Dre Urhahn and Jeroen Koolhas. Both of these men had an image of what favela were like and what the people were like too. With this these two men travelled around the world recreating giant murals on buildings in Rio to make a statement. This project helped both men express the different perspective of art and what art can portray to the community.

However, in this TED talk there are limits of trying to portray different perspective of arts to individuals. In this TED talk, the many issues of art was funding. Both of these artist did not have the funding to create these enormous canvas. When Dre Urhahn “received an unexpected phone call from Philadelphia Mural Arts Program,” he and his fellow worker had to think outside the box. Not having enough painters and money to help them with this canvas was a major issues. Local store owners, building owners and a dozen of men and women had to be hired to assist in this creation. This major issue slowly became minor as both of these men trained them to become painters. Another, limitation of art is how time consuming these projects were. For example, the North Philly canvas took almost two years to complete.

Although, there are limits in art, art has the power to overcome these minor limitations. In this TED Talk, favela were unwelcoming, dangerous and an ugly place. With the power of art on these buildings it helped the world to change their mind   and enforcing people to think in a different way. Another, power of art is grabbing people’s attention and forming a bond. Once these canvas were painted in the community of Philly everyone came together as one. Why is this? It is because everyone worked together as one to create this canvas thus, forming a bond and dedication to change the community as a whole. Personally, I think art enables to good to come out of people whether it colorful or dark an dreary everyone is able to connect on a personal level.

Great job summarizing the ted talk and answering both questions on the blog post. I did the same ted talk and I had the same limits for the art. I don’t really know what else to say here, I guess expand a pond the what they plan to do in the future. Find some more quotes and talk about them in the context of making the world a better place. Off of that you did a good job talking about how art improved communities. That’s all from me, don’t take any of this feedback to seriously, I would not call myself a writer of any sorts.

I like how you separated your blog post into paragraphs. I like how you talked about the power art has and how it overshadows the limitations. I like how you mentioned that the power of art “is grabbing people’s attention and forming a bond”. Art is more than just images art can lead to inspiration and hope. the Ted Talk you choose speaks to the power of taking something that seems ugly and turning it into something positive and beautiful. Its true that art takes time but the power it has should make it worth the time. I think the information you presented in your blog pos. It is clear and true and the statements you made will eventually lead you to write an amazing paper. I don’t really have any improvements you could make, I like what you said and how you said it.

I chose the same TED talk you chose and I agree with everything you said in this blog! I really loved how you really explained everything that was said in the TED talk. You bringing in lots of examples and information made it very easy to read and understand where you’re coming from. It easily backed up your thoughts on the TED talk. Also you explained it very well and with all the information you added it would even make it simple for someone who did not read it to understand which is important.
